21 Gram is about three people whose life is joined through coincidences and an accident – a meshlike interconnectedness. The archetype of binary oppositions makes the movie a traditional drama: love and hate, revenge and redemption. From the viewers’ point of view it might be an unusual American movie – ‘digestibilitiwise’. There are times when the story seems too real to enjoy, other times it turns brilliantly lifting. Clear, incomprehensible, heavy, light, enjoyable, painful, passionate, dull, common, extraordinary, touching, indifferent – well, such is life… or death…
