The last time Péter Magyar visited the the northern Transdanubian county seat was during the final stages of the local and European elections. At that time, we wrote that the largest-scale opposition event in recent years had been a demonstration demanding the resignation of then-mayor Zoltán Borkai in the wake of the Fidesz politician’s sex scandal. However, even this was far exceeded by the number of attendees at Péter Magyar’s speech.
In light of this, it is somewhat surprising
Opposition politicians we interviewed are also unaware of any official Tisza presence in Győr. We posed related questions to the party’s press office, enquiring:
- Does Tisza have any organisations in Győr, around Győr, or in Győr-Moson-Sopron County? (We also asked about the names and contact details of potential local leaders.)
- Are there any organisations, groups (civil organisations, partner organisations, supporting memberships etc.) in the region that, while not official Tisza organisations, collaborate with the party?
We received no responses to our questions, but local Tisza Party sympathisers did agree to speak with us. Several Tisza Islands operate in Győr, and we interviewed multiple members, one of whom was willing to give a statement to 24.hu on condition of anonymity.
