A Netflix forgalmazásában látható történet szerint az egykori rabszolga John Henry a kelet-nyugati vasút építésén dolgozott az első gőzhajtású munkagépek megjelenésekor. A férfi be akarta bizonyítani, hogy erősebb holmi gépeknél, így tartva meg saját és társai munkáját. Ezért versenybe szállt az egyik géppel, melyikük fúr gyorsabban alagutat egy sziklába. Hogy-hogynem Henry nyert, de bele is halt ebbe a mutatványába.
