A telefont a tajvani Arimával együtt fejlesztették ki. Szintén ez a cég gyártja a készülékeket. Az A3618 2001 harmadik negyedévétől lesz lapható a távol-keleti országokban.
Az A3618-at az ázsiai piac azon szegmensének szánták, amely első készülékeként egy könnyen használható telefont keres. A készülék kis méretű, fogása kényelmes és két színkombinációban készül. A T9 Text Input segítségével egyszerűbbé válik a szöveges üzenet írása, a beépített naptár pedig a megkönnyíti, hogy emlékezzünk a születésnapokra, találkozókra. A telefon vibráló hívásjelzővel is rendelkezik.
A készülék szórakoztató szolgáltatásai közé tartozik a négyfajta háttérszín. Ezek segítségével a háttérvilágítás különböző színű lehet a hívók különböző csoportjainál. A képernyővédők mellett három játékot is beépítettek: Tetris, Erix és Pulldown.
Az A3618 GSM 900/1800 hálózatokon működik, beszélgetési ideje 4 óra lehet, készenléti ideje pedig 180 óra maximálisan.

Ericsson introduces mobile phone A3618 for the Asian market
Today, Ericsson introduced the mobile phone A3618. Weighing only 86 grams, A3618 has a large full graphic display, different colors for the display, screensavers and T9 Text Input for quick SMS text messaging.
The phone has been developed in co-operation with Arima, Taiwan, which will also manufacture the phone. A3618 will be available during the third quarter 2001 Asia Pacific.
Targeted at the Asian entry-level segment, A3618 is an inspiring product for consumers looking for ease-of-use and fun features. Its small size and soft design makes A3618 great to look at and nice to hold. It is lacquered in two fresh color combinations, Icy Silver and Graphite Silver, and holds a wide range of features that make socializing even easier. The T9 Text Input makes it fast and easy to write text messages to friends, the built-in calendar makes it easier to remember birthdays and meetings, and vibrating alert makes sure that phone calls are not missed.
The phone comes with a pack of fun features, such as four different background colors for the display light. The background colors can be set to correspond with phone book contacts. For instance, red could mean calls from colleagues and green calls from family members. In that way, the user knows what to expect before answering a call. The phone also has two start-up and shutdown shows that are activated when the phone is turned on or off. These shows can also be used as screensavers. For the user who occasionally wants to unwind, there are three games for different moods and skills – Tetris, Erix and Pulldown.
A3618 is developed for GSM 900/1800 networks and has a talk time of up to 4 hours and a standby time of up to 180 hours.
