A versenybírók döntése alapján Max Verstappen megtarthatja az első rajthelyét a 2026-os Szingapúri Nagydíj sprintfutamára, miután a sportfelügyelők úgy határoztak, hogy nem szabnak ki rá büntetést a Lewis Hamilton ellen elkövetett előzési incidens miatt.

A vizsgálat azért indult, mert a sprintkvalifikáció első szakaszában Sergio Pérez incidense miatt érvényben lévő sárga zászlós jelzés alatt a holland pilóta elhaladt a Ferrari brit versenyzője mellett.

A hivatalos dokumentumok és a telemetriai adatok megerősítették, hogy Verstappen a sárga zászló észlelését követően azonnal és teljesen elengedte a gázpedált, azonban Hamilton még drasztikusabban lelassított, és 60 km/h alatti sebességre fékezve lehúzódott az ideális ívről, hogy elengedje a mögötte érkező Red Bullt.

A két autó közötti nagyobb sebességkülönbség miatt Verstappen – annak ellenére, hogy ő maga is lassított – automatikusan elhaladt a Ferrari mellett a 8-as kanyar előtt.

A meghallgatáson Verstappen elmagyarázta, hogy az előzés elkerülése érdekében olyan hirtelen és intenzív fékezésre kényszerült volna, amellyel súlyos veszélyhelyzetet teremtett volna a pályán.

A versenybírók végül elismerték, hogy a szabályzat betűje szerint ugyan megvalósult a sárga zászló alatti előzés tilalmának megszegése, ám az eset csupán a szerencsétlen körülmények és a jelentős sebességkülönbség elkerülhetetlen következménye volt.

Mivel a holland versenyző bizonyítottan szabályszerűen és óvatosan reagált a figyelmeztetésre, a stewardok úgy döntöttek, hogy nem alkalmaznak rajtbüntetést.
