1.A for prepozíciót mindig időperiódussal használjuk, azt fejezzük ki, hogy milyen régóta történik valami:
We watched television for 2 hours last night.
Diane is going away for a week in September.
Are you going away for the weekend?
2. A during prepozíciót főnévvel használjuk és azt fejezzük ki vele, hogy mikor/mialatt történik valami:
I fell asleep during the film.
We met some really nice people during our holiday.
3. A while prepozíció ugyanazt fejezi ki mint a during, csak tagmondatot használunk utána.
I fell asleep while I was watching TV.
We met a lot of vreally nice people while we were on holiday.
