Lángol az erdő a Portugália középső részén lévő Pampilhosa da Serra településen.  A tűz megmagyarázhatatlan sebességgel terjed, 733 tűzoltó vesz részt az oltásban, de mostanáig nem sikerült megfékezni. A tűzvész halálos áldozatainak száma 62-re emelkedett, több mint ötvenen megsérültek. Többen füstmérgezés miatt haltak meg, mások bennégtek a kocsijukban, amikor a lángok csapdájába estek, vagy később, a kórházban haltak bele a sérüléseikbe. A tüzet a rendőrség szerint egy villám okozhatta, amely belecsapott egy fába.
